CHIESA PARROCCHIALE

Churches at Manerba del Garda

Built in the middle of the eighteenth century in the parochial Baroque style of Manerba, it is dedicated to the assumption of the Virgin. The white façade has an elegant and complex structure. The lower part is characterised by a few columns on plinths with composite capitals and these are supported by semi pilasters also with capitals. These hold up an architrave, frieze and cornice, elements which make up the entablature. Above this, another series of smaller columns frame a large window with pediment. A serrated and ridged cornice outlines a triangular gable above which some statues are found. The interior is harmonious, very bright and richly decorated, according to the stylistic features typical of the Baroque thesis with accentuation on the stage effect and theatricality. Also of note is certainly the main altarpiece whose subject is the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, a work which, although with some reservation has been attributed to Andrea Celesti. Even the altars of the Rosary and of the Blessed Sacrament deserve the attention of visitors because of the elegant and sometimes quirky elements that make up the decoration.
